Full Circle Moments

It’s a personal luxury to have one passion in a lifetime, to have two is a divine blessing — to experience them at the same time is a display of cosmic favor.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, about how many should we anticipate for a photo of a tender piece of Brisket atop creamy Macaroni & Cheese, or freshly made Hushpuppies paired with thinly shaved Prosciutto? (My assumption would be at least 2,800 words!)
Food and photography share a great deal of commonalities, aside from being art forms focused around composition. A talented chef and photographer will absolutely use their skills to tell stories, to connect with people, build communities, and illicit emotions.
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to join The Recinos Company as a photographer on their production team, to document a culinary event in the heart of New York City. This was my first time photographing a food festival, typically I’m guest exploring new flavors with my Wife, so this was a special moment for me because both of my passions were overlapping.
Creatively, my objective was to document the exchange of energy between the chefs and guests — the tangible expression of creative energy from the chefs, to the epicurious and culturally passionate energy of the guests. My approach to portraiture is rooted in authentic moments, looking for opportunities when personalities are at the forefront.
This event was a beautiful cultural experience, it felt like being in room with cousins you actually want to see. The curation of dishes was thoughtful, nothing felt redundant and classic dishes felt inspired.
