Store Front, The Dissappearing Face of New York

Store Front, The Dissappearing Face of New York

Over the last, maybe two or three years I've started collecting photography books. I have a deep appreciation for artists who create with intention and purpose, and I'm inspired by their commitment to an idea, not just their collection of work.

What makes this book so special is that I received it as a gift, at a time when I was finding my voice as a photographer. Interestingly enough, my introduction to photography started by documenting my community, the first photo I ever snapped was of a local business in my neighborhood. Since that moment back in 2002, the driving force behind my creative journey has been to document the beauty within my community, and to create photos that reflect the character and charm of the cities I visit.

I really appreciate how every borough is represented in this book, and how they show significance to the local institutions within those communities. Also, the inclusion of the street names and neighborhoods also creates a low-key urge to visit some of the locations to see how they look now.

I refer back to this book very regularly, it’s a great study in composition and storytelling, and overall just a joy to read. If you’re interested in grabbing a copy use the link below, it’ll bring right to Kindred Thoughts to order a copy.

Peace.
