Imani & Jordan

Documenting love might be one of the most artistic things to do, it’s like creating visual poetry.

If you asked me what I do creatively, I’d probably tell you street photography and documentary photography — engagements and weddings would be the furthest thing from my vocabulary. Over the last few years though I’ve been receiving more and more requests to apply my style of photography to the precious moments in people’s lives.

I’m starting to really understand why I’m receiving these requests, it’s because I’m not looking to create the status quo during these sessions, I’m eagerly searching for those bursts of organic love that made the session possible in the first place. Of course, I gave this couple their hallmark engagement photos, but I also told them that I wanted them to be themselves, to act natural to engage with the location as if I wasn’t there — that’s when the magic happens.

Love is a living thing, it matures and changes just as the couple does, and I was looking to document the love of this moment. I think there’s value in looking back at photos yourself, and your partner, to see the joy in your eyes from those yesteryear moments.

I still wouldn’t say I’m an engagement photographer, but I’d totally claim the title of love documentarian. I want to create sets of photos that you’re able to reflect on in 20 years, and immediately go back to the feelings of love you had for one another — full of smiles, laughs, hugs, tears and warm embraces.

I appreciate that this couple let me go into full artist mode to create a monochromatic set of photos. From my perspective this set adds a bit of timelessness to this moment in their life, as well as emotional depth. I’m drawn more into them as a couple given that I’m only able to focus purely on them, their facial expressions and collective energy.

Thank You Imani & Jordan!

Hope you enjoy this set of photos, Peace.
