Visual Workout vol. 3

The slower the pace, the better the view.

Last week I had to spend the morning in New Haven, CT, in a pocket neighborhood that I’ve passed through but I’ve never explored. (Fun Fact: This neighborhood has the T-Mobile phone repair center in the state of Connecticut

My appointment gave me just enough time to walk through a neighborhood that essentially borders 3 of New Haven’s most notable neighborhoods, Yale Campus, East Rock and Downtown New Haven. I’m not a stranger to New Haven, but this adventure most definitely gave me a new experience and perspective on the city.

I’ll back track one step to acknowledge that I’m also walking through the city on a Wednesday morning, during what could be considered the 2nd wave of the morning commute.

All of those small details add up to the “new” experience I had in New Haven. It was unique to be in the city when all of the traffic was essentially foot traffic, or people qucikly pulling into parking garages.

The energy was different from what I’m accustomed to, the crowds were clusters of people spilling in and out of coffee shops, shops were preparing to open, the collegiate buildings were being maintenanced and prepared for Spring.

It felt like I had a sneak peek into what the masses will get to experience when the city fully wakes up.

Lastly, I’ll say this is the most amount of keepers that I’ve had from a casual photo walk. I can definitely attribute that to me just walking a lot slower, almost becoming a tourist in a city. This was absolutely a refreshing creative experience, something that I’ll try to replicate more often. The recipe: slow the pace down to experience your surroundings, turn off notifications, and enjoy a lo-fi playlist — this should result in a rejuvenating creative experience.

I hope you enjoy these photos.

Peace!
