BLM Street Mural
Art will always give us the most accurate representation of a period in time.
Most artists feel in a slightly different way than other people, and they're able to articulate those feelings in very thought provoking ways. It’s no big secret that racial injustice has been an issue in America for well over 401 years, and there has always been art to reflect times and feeling of the people living through those experiences. As I write this I'm reminded of the spiritual songs that would be sung by the enslaved Africans, each song featured lyrics that told their stories.
The creative community within the city of Bridgeport has done something really bold downtown, they've created a mural that runs across 3 city blocks. The mural reads "Black Lives Matter", this seemingly simple statement has a deep meaning and strong purpose.
IMO, it's pretty straightforward, the lives of Black people matter.
My intentions were to make a much larger photo set, but the energy and sense of community was so beautiful I spent more time Just absorbing the positive vibes. Occasionally its more important to be in moment than on the outside looking in for the sake of documentation. The best way to ensure you're telling the story accurately is to sometimes be a part of the story.
